“Kelly”, as he is most commonly called, has been in the golf industry for over 35 years. After graduating from Michigan State University in 1981, and having his fill of the winters up there, Kelly moved to Florida and started his career as an assistant golf professional. He gained his Class A status with the PGA in 1985 and shortly thereafter was named head golf professional at the newly opened West Course of the John’s Island Club in Vero Beach.
In 1991, Kelly accepted a position with a golf software company in Pinehurst, NC and worked extensively with the CGA and SCGA in migrating clubs from the old “paper batch” handicapping service to in-house computerized systems, which also included tournament management software. Kelly was later promoted to Vice President of Association Services, working with several other State and Regional Golf Associations and becoming more involved in Internet software development. He spearheaded the project that was first used by the CGA to accept online tournament registrations with credit card payments.
In 2013, Kelly went to work for the USGA as Assistant Director of GHIN Project Management, coordinating software development of their handicapping, tournament, and related software products before coming to the CGA in September of 2014.
Kelly and his wife Debbie have 3 adult sons. Kelly is an avid Beatles fan and don’t bet against him in Classic Rock trivia.
